Do you picture yourself sitting on your deck watching the deer and elk walk by while you are sipping your morning coffee? Perhaps you want to have a barn for your horses so you can explore the mountain trails around Crested Butte with them. Maybe getting away from it all means just that – having a remote retreat where there is no sign of other people to be seen.
In Colorado dividing a large parcel of land into smaller lots is easiest if the lots are at least 35 acres. Around Crested Butte you will find several 35 acre subdivisions for just that reason. They all require a well and septic system for each residence, but have varying rules and covenants on what you are allowed to build, where on the property you are allowed to build and whether or not you can keep animals.
You will find that although the size of the properties may be similar, each area has a different feel to it in terms of vegetation, topography and views. Pine forests, aspen groves, river frontage, sagebrush or pasture are all possibilities, but generally not all on the same property!
